PicLab: Photo Editor is an app that has made the move over from Android and iOS and now has a home on Windows Phone. It’s an amazing feature-rich photo editor that works just as well on the Nokia Lumia 1020 as it does the Nokia Lumia 625. Check out our PicLab: Photo Editor for Windows Phone hands-on for more information.

PicLab: Photo Editor for Windows Phone allows you to add typography, apply stunning filters and photo effects to the photos taken on your Nokia Lumia, then add an ever-growing collection of shapes, light FX, textures, borders, patterns, and more to your photos and share them to your favourite social networks!

PicLab: Photo Editor has a great look and feel to it. When you open the app it need to initialise the built-in camera but you can load images from the Photo Hub on your Lumia and edit those too. Photos taken and edited in the app are intended to be shared, so you’ll the results are square, just like with Instagram, but the tools on offer make it worthwhile.

The first thing you’ll see is the Typography overlay box allowing you to easily add words and text to your image. There is a wide array of fonts to choose from, as well as features such as resize, rotate, and text opacity features. You can even add a drop-shadow to text and even add multiple layers to get some stunning results.

However, the true value of the app comes in the form of Masks and overlays. With over 100 to choose from and growing all the time, you can choose shapes, borders, overlays, textures, light-leaks, and more to add that extra flair to your photos.

These are broken down into four options: Borders & Shapes, Light FX, Textures, and Patterns. Tap on an option and you’ll be presented with a wealth of masks, some are a little obvious while others less so, giving you plenty to explore with.

There are the standard photo effects allowing you to adjust the brightness, saturation, contrast, blur, and exposure of your photos.
If you simply want to add a filter to your photo, then PicLab: Photo Editor allows you to do that. With 20 filters to choose from, and more on the way according to the developer, there is plenty of variety on offer. You can choose from the standard Antique or Greyscale filters, to more creative such as Negative and Watercolour, as well as simple rotate tools.
As with all the filters and effects in PicLab: Photo Editor for Windows Phone, you can make your choice and you’ll see what affect it will have before you apply it to your image.
We’ve been using it with our Nokia Lumia 925 and getting some pretty amazing results from it. We’ve also been checking it out on the Nokia Lumia 625 budget smartphone to check that it works on Windows Phone devices with 512MB of RAM and we’re happy to report it works just as smoothly.
PicLab: Photo Editor isn’t without its issues. Being a new app we’ve found that it does tend to drop out on the odd occasion, forcing you to restart. However, on the whole it’s a stable app that offers some amazing opportunities for those who love to heavily edit their photos before sharing.
PicLab: Photo Editor is a free 34MB download from the Windows Phone Store.
